Delhi is a vibrant city. It has many colours, many hues, many layers and many faces. The street vendors peddling their wares are a common sight all across the city. They are an integral part of the city fabric often adding spice and colour to the place. Yet, they are often unacknowledged...they are harrassed by the public as well as the civic authorities. Its a constant struggle for them to make the ends meet...Yet they carry on with a smile on their face with their indomitable spirit...
We cannot do without them. Imagine how barren and lifeless the place will be without the calls of the panipuri wallah or that of the cloth vendors, the smells of barbequed kebabs over coals on a wintery evening... How often have we found solace in a glass of sweet lime on a scorchingly hot day? from trinkets to bangles to jackets, shoes, papads, sunglasses to sweet potatoes....they offer everything, each unique in its own way...and who can deny the thrill of a good bargain? This post is a collection of a few of their images, a salute to the street kings of Delhi...

ReplyDeleteWow - these are really good pictures! As also on the train journey post. You should think of entering in some photo exhibition along with the captions. Enjoyed seeing some of the scenes of our capital that we often tend to miss. Thanks
